FC Bayern Munich invites you to a round table.

The topic is Qatar sponsorship, which caused a scandal at the 2021 annual general meeting.

Munich – If there is an annual general meeting at FC Bayern Munich, things can get hot.

Uli Hoeneß knows this best, in his long time as Bayern maker he experienced many a difficult JHV moment.

Unforgotten is his "shit mood" announcement from 2007 in the direction of the fans, who then responded with "Ugh" and "Boo" calls.

Herbert Hainer, Hoeneß's successor as President, has been in office since 2019.

And since then he has had to experience what an AGM can mean for Bayern.

In November 2021 he closed the meeting - too early in the opinion of the members.

Vice President Dieter Mayer had previously rejected a spontaneous application from member Michael Ott.

That application was tough, it was about Qatar, which has long been the subject of major discussions among Munich residents.

After Hainer abruptly ended the meeting, the plenum responded with chants of “Hainer out” and “We are Bavaria and you are not”.

It was one of the darker hours in Bayern's recent past, and Hoeneß even spoke immediately afterwards of the "worst event I've ever experienced at Bayern".

Now, a good seven months later, the subject of Qatar is back on the table - in one go.

FC Bayern keeps its promise and invites its critical fans to talk to the bosses.

CEO Oliver Kahn and President Hainer will take part in the dialogue on July 4 (5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.).

In addition to the fans, representatives of the Qatar World Cup OC, human rights organizations and former members of the federal government have also been announced.

The panel will be moderated by the chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen.

The aim is an "objective and direct dialogue about German and Qatari society, about criticism from human rights organizations and about the partnership between FC Bayern Munich AG and Qatar Airways".

According to the record champions (overview of all Bayern titles), this should lead to “better mutual understanding”.

The deal in question, which ultimately led to the escalation in November 2021, has been a hot topic for many critical Bayern fans for years.

After its training camp in Doha in January 2020, FC Bayern announced that it would convene a round table on the matter.

This subsequently failed due to the pandemic restrictions, it said.

It is "important" for Bayern that committed fans have their say on this subject, as they write in a message to their members.

"Conversely, the Qatari participants should be given the opportunity to make comments and questions about Germany, German society and how their country is perceived in Germany," it said.
