The Parc de la Villette (Paris, 19th century) will be celebrating this Sunday: it is hosting the highly anticipated Garmin Triathlon de Paris.

A competition that could not be held since the last edition in 2019 due to the Covid crisis.

“We had attracted nearly 5,000 participants that year, recalls Thomas Delpeuch, the organization manager at ASO (Amaury Sport Organisation).

We should reach the same level this Sunday too.

This year, the meeting aims to be above all a popular festival with the appearance of a postcard.

“We want it to be a beautiful sporting celebration, while emphasizing the welcome, assures Delpeuch.

From Saturday, we set up a village in the Parc de la Villette to welcome the participants.

Parc de la Villette is the central point of the event where every transition between swimming, cycling and running will take place.

Two formats are offered to the brave: the first called "Olympic" offers 1500 m of swimming, 40 km of cycling, and 11 km of running.

The Olympic format also offers a relay event.

In the second format, called “sprint” (but only individually), participants will have to swim 500 m, cycle 20 km and run 6 km.

The hope of one day swimming in the Seine

Swimming takes place in the Bassin de la Villette, in the Canal de l'Ourcq.

Then will come the bike course which will take the competitors through the most beautiful squares of the capital.

From La Villette, they will head towards the Place de la République, then the Bastille.

Then head to the Louvre Pyramid, Place de la Concorde, the Grand Palais.

In the Olympic format, the runners will be able to admire the Eiffel Tower, the Bois de Boulogne, the Place du Trocadéro and the Arc de Triomphe before returning to the 19th arrondissement.

As with swimming, the running event will take place along the Canal de l'Ourcq.

“We are in our second edition, indicates Delpeuch.

We are very happy with the course.

We hope in the future to be able to do the swimming test in the Seine.

That would be great.

We hope that the Paris Olympics will help us move forward with this project.

This Sunday, the events will take place at the Canal de l'Ourcq and it's just as pleasant.

In any case, at ASO, we want to make a long-term commitment to this event…”

Departures will take place on Sunday morning from 8 a.m. for the Olympic format and from 9 a.m. for the sprint format.

As for the arrivals, they are expected for the best around 9:45 am.
