Following the U-turn of Kenny Atkinson, who decided to continue as Golden State assistant coach, the Charlotte Hornets announced tonight (Friday through Saturday) the return of Steve Clifford to the position of head coach.
This will be Clifford's second 60-year tenure on the Hornets' lines, which he coached for five years until 2018, leading the team to two playoff appearances, ranking second in the number of wins among all coaches in the history of Charlotte.
Owner Michael Jordan also interviewed Mike D'Antoni, ESPN's Adrian Wozniacki reported, but his and professional manager Mitch Kopczak's ties with Clifford were crucial in the selection process, with Hornets chiefs believing he could improve the existing staff, especially in Penn. He now has a talented attacking squad, including Lamello Ball who has already become an All-Star in his second season of his career, in addition to Terry Roger, Gordon Hayward and Miles Bridges who has become a limited free agent.
