Simon Henseleit did a lot to ensure that the men's triathlon championship at the "Finals" in Berlin was a fast race.

In the end he was on the podium twice.

Berlin - It wasn't enough for a really big hit, i.e. a medal in the DM ranking of the elite men, but Simon Henseleit's performance at the "Finals" in Berlin on Sunday was remarkable.

The 22-year-old from Steingaden did a lot for the race, especially on the bike.

In the end he finished tenth in the overall DM ranking.

He completed the 750 meter swim, 20 kilometer bike ride and 5 kilometer run in 51:56 minutes.

He was the third best German U23 athlete, so he won the bronze medal.

Within the "hep Team Sun" team, Henseleit was second best behind Frenchman Aurelien Jem (51:27/4th place).

At the "Finals" in Berlin, the German individual champions were determined in the sprint, but at the same time the event was also a national league race.

In this ranking, the "hep Team Sun" team finished third behind the "Ejot Team TV Buschhütten" and the "Hylo Team Saar" with the same number of points.

In addition to Henseleit and Jem, the hep team also included Arnaud des Boscs (52:45/23rd), Jan Diener (52:57/25th) and Eric Diener (53:26/33rd).

Lasse Lührs (Buschhütten/51:02) secured the German title ahead of Lasse Nygaerd Priester (Saar/51:10).

Third place went to U23 athlete Henry Graf (Darmstadt/51:21).

Graf was the first to climb out of Wannsee.

The special feature of this location: From the beach to the transition area, the athletes had to climb 79 steps.

Henseleit came out of the water in a large group, almost 30 seconds behind Graf.

By the way:

everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.

And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

The man from Steingaden, who recently won the U23 European Championship title, made the change quickly and made it into the first large group of bikes, which Graf soon caught up with.

On the 20 kilometers, Henseleit launched two attacks in which he tried to break away.

This did not work.

Nevertheless, he continued to play an active role and did a lot of leadership work.

During the first passage through the transition zone, Henseleit made a bon mot: he made a gesture to the spectators asking them to create a good atmosphere.

Well positioned, he finally drove to the second exchange.

That was also important, because further back in the field there was a fall in the transition area.

Henseleit was unaffected by this, he was even the first to run.

He wasn't able to keep up with the best, and thepriests and Lührs in particular put a lot of pressure on the front.

As the tenth best German, Henseleit finally crossed the finish line.

He completed the swim in 9:17 minutes (29th place), his time for the bike split was 25:35 minutes (seventh fastest time).

He completed the last discipline in 15:24 minutes (18th place).

On Saturday, Franca Henseleit, Simon's sister, put in a strong performance in the women's elite race.

She finished the race in eighth place.
