Tennis star Novak Djokovic will probably miss the US Open after the Australian Open.

Vaccination is still not an option for the Serb.

London - It's really not his year: In Australia Novak Djokovic was chased out of the country, at the French Open it was over against Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals.

Wimbledon is relatively certainly the last chance for the Serbs to somehow save the season.

Because he will not be allowed to compete at the US Open in autumn.

The 20-time Grand Slam winner emphasized again in the run-up to the Wimbledon tournament: Vaccination against the corona virus is out of the question for him.

Currently, only vaccinated people are allowed to enter the United States.

Djokovic will miss the second of four Grand Slams in 2022 if nothing changes in the legal situation.

Novak Djokovic misses US Open: "Not much I can do"

“I would love to travel to the States.

But it's not possible as of today - there's not much I can do," he said at a press conference in London.

"It's up to the US government whether they let unvaccinated people into their country." It's quite a blow for the 35-year-old, because he won't be able to play at the top level and win the biggest titles forever.

Djokovic is now drawing a special drive for Wimbledon from the rather modest prospects towards the end of the year.

It was an "additional motivation" for him to do well in the classic lawn.

He has won all of the last three tournaments in London.

As with the French Open, the vaccination status is not a criterion for participation in Wimbledon.

Wimbledon: Djokovic wants fourth title in a row - Zverev and Medvedev not there

The "Djoker" is of course one of the favorites on the holy lawn, together with Nadal.

A win could bring him back close to the world number one currently held by Daniil Medvedev.

Because the Russian, like the German number one Alexander Zverev, who is currently in second place, is not in Wimbledon.

Medvedev is not allowed to play due to English sanctions against Russia in the wake of the Ukraine war, Zverev tore a ligament at Roland Garros.

The Wimbledon kick-off will take place on June 27th.
