After informing Botafogo that he will not join the team, details of the tedious and Sisyphean negotiations with Eran Zehavi are revealed in Brazil.
Zahavi, who will celebrate 35 exactly in a month, announced this morning (Sunday) to the Brazilian team that he does not intend to attend, even though he has already reached an agreement with the team leaders and according to the local media "was very close to signing".
In Brazil it is claimed that Zahavi has already almost managed to convince his family that the move to Rio de Janeiro will be smooth, but changed his mind a week and a half ago, after the incident in which team fans were documented invading Botafogo's locker room after a loss.
"That was the point from which there was no way back," Globo noted.
"Botafogo was looking for any way to turn the situation around again and convince Zahavi, but because it was already very difficult."

Reporter Thiago Franklin noted that "Botafogo did everything" to convince Zehavi, including allocating financial resources (his salary was supposed to be about 4 million euros per season) and security (according to reports, Zehavi asked the group to assign him a private driver, security guard and tour guide).
According to him, owner John Textur saw Zahavi as a player who could become a key figure in Botafogo's screwing back at the top, thanks to his seniority, his strong character and of course his expertise in scoring goals.
"John Texture is the most frustrated man in the situation," he said.
Zahavi is not the only senior player the team is unable to sign, despite stubborn attempts.
In recent months Botafogo has tried to sign big names like Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez and even Cesc Fabregas, but all have refused to come to Brazil.
Now Textur and his men are trying to persuade Hamas Rodriguez to join, but for now it seems he is not interested either, focusing on the possibility of returning to European football.
Zehavi, for his part, is expected to sign for a full two years at Maccabi Tel Aviv and register a comeback to the club where he became a sergeant, six years after leaving it.
