The preparation for the season is painful for biathlon athlete Dorothea Wierer.

She suddenly loses a wheel while inline skating - with consequences.

South Tyrol - In summer all biathletes say: Get on the rollers!

The athletes only reap the rewards of hard fitness training when the first snowflakes fall.

Instead of lazing around in the sun, iron discipline is required.

Falls are by no means harmless, even on cross-country skis - and of course even more painful on the asphalt with inline skates.

The three-time biathlon world champion Dorothea Wierer had to experience this firsthand.

She couldn't help it: Ironically, one of the wheels on her inline skates came off at high speed while she was going downhill.

A technical defect in which she was only a passenger in the end.

Anyone who has ever stood on inline skates can guess: In such a situation, a fall cannot be avoided.

Especially not at high speeds.

The South Tyrolean suffered ugly abrasions, she shows her followers on Instagram the whole mess.

"When you lose a wheel downhill," she explains the accident.

Wierer's arms, legs and even his chin are scraped, no doubt an extremely painful affair.

Every shower afterwards will probably be an ordeal for a few days.

But the 32-year-old is tough and wants to attack again this winter.

The good thing is that she wasn't seriously injured and two days later she was back on her bike with large bandages on her arms and legs.

"Nothing can stop you," comments a fan. "Put it together again and let's go, respect and get well soon," wishes another follower.

"Be more careful next time," advises another concerned.

The biathlon season starts on November 29th in Kontiolahti, Finland, and then there will be no trace of the injuries.

She has already completed her (first) summer vacation: she spent a few sunny bikini days in Oman.
