Barça's ultimatum to Dembélé: renew down before Thursday

2022-06-27T18:07:47.481Z

The footballer is inclined to stay, according to Xavi, but economic conditions are an obstacle for his agent

Barcelona have given Ousmane Dembélé an ultimatum: the 25-year-old French player has time until this Thursday, June 30, the day his contract ends, to respond to the renewal proposal raised from the Camp Nou.

The azulgrana offer is downwards, about 6.5 million euros plus 1.5 in variables, according to the news advanced by Rac1.

Club sources simply assure that the player's record would be significantly reduced - now he receives more than 10 million net -, that the negotiations will end one way or another before the 30th and that there will be no renewal premium or commission for the agent, Moussa Sissoko.

The conversations were activated this Monday with the arrival in Barcelona of Sissoko and the meeting that Xavi, the Barça coach, held with the technical secretariat and the director of football, Mateu Alemany.

Xavi insists that he needs a winger and, given a choice, bets on Dembélé after the alternative of Raphinha, Leeds' Brazilian striker, turns out to be very complicated due to the offers he has from the Premier.

There is no record on the other hand that any club has presented a proposal to Dembélé.

It has only been speculated with a possible interest from PSG, Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

The player has reiterated on several occasions, and also during the summer, that he wants to continue at Barcelona.

He has even shown his willingness to lower his record after he presented a counteroffer in December that included a bonus of about 30 million, a commission of more than 10 and income close to 15.

That proposal caused a rupture between both parties and Dembélé's departure at the end of the season was taken for granted, especially from the economic and sports area of Barcelona.

Xavi's interest and Dembélé's availability have reopened the talks that must end before Thursday, the same day that, on the other hand, the club must close the 2021-2022 financial year.

The board chaired by Joan Laporta is urgently trying to reach an agreement with a company for the sale of less than 25% of the television rights to avoid a negative balance for the third consecutive season: -97 million in the 2019-2020 academic year and - 481 in 2020-21.

The shareholders' meeting, in any case, has already suspended, at the request of the Laporta board, the article by which he had to resign in case of accumulating two consecutive years of losses.

The same compromisers enabled the council to sell part of the club's assets in order to remodel the squad as requested by Xavi.
