Defeated the bureaucracy: Israeli record for 200m Blessing | Israel today

The Ghanaian-born sprinter improved his previous record in Maya and set a tremendous result of 20.70 seconds • In early July 2020 after struggles with state bureaucracies, the young athlete received the coveted message and began to represent Israel

The Israeli Athletics Championships continued tonight (Monday) at the renewed Athletics Stadium in Givat Ram in Jerusalem.

The star of the evening was Blessing Afrippa, who completed the double for the third year in a row with a victory in the 200 meters as well, while breaking the Israeli record.

The 18-year-old Afrippa set a result of 20.70 seconds, thus breaking one director's previous record, which was achieved at the beginning of the month as part of the Cadet and Youth League in Hadar Yosef in Tel Aviv.

The sprinter was born in Israel to parents who came from Ghana, when his father came to Israel about 32 years ago as an employee of the Ghanaian consulate.

In 2010, together with his family, he was granted permanent resident status, following the government's decision not to deport the children of foreign workers who were born in Israel and meet certain criteria.

In early July 2020, the circle and the struggle of Afrifa closed, bore fruit.

After struggles with state bureaucracies, high-level recommendations, and finally the final stamp with the approval of Interior Minister Aryeh Deri, the young athlete was given the coveted message and began to represent Israel.

In the women's 200m final, Eden Finkelstein won with 24.08 seconds.

Pole Vault

In the men's pole vault, Lev Skorish won with 5 meters, beating the outgoing champion Itamar Bastker, who this time finished only in third place with 4.90 meters.

Double to Noam Maman

Noam Maman also provided an impressive performance after on the opening day he won the 400-meter run and completed a double when he also took the 800-meter run, with a great finish right in the last meters when he crossed the finish line in a time of 1: 54.63 minutes.

Memo, only 16 years old, is the athlete that everyone expects to be able to get on the podium at the European Under-18 Championships to be held at the next seven at the same stadium.
