What is simply called “European Football Championship” for men, even Uefa only calls “European Football Championship for women” here: National goalkeeper Almuth Schult criticizes the choice of words and makes the associations responsible.

National goalkeeper Almuth Schult has asked the football associations to change the terminology in order to create more gender equality.

"I've experienced this emphasis on football and women's football very, very often myself," said the 31-year-old from VfL Wolfsburg in a media round at the DFB team headquarters in Herzogenaurach.

"Why aren't they just called Bundesliga?

Or: men’s Bundesliga and women’s Bundesliga?”

Schult criticized the official language of the world association and the European Football Union: Fifa World and Fifa Women's World Cup, Uefa Champions League and Uefa Women's Champions League.

“Why does that have to be shown separately?

That's exactly this devaluation that you don't need," criticized the 2016 Olympic champion. "UEFA and FIFA simply have to take a step forward and create a little more equality from the start."

Schult is part of the German squad for the European Championships in England (July 6th to 31st).

According to national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, Merle Frohms is the number 1 in the German goal.

The previous Frankfurt player will succeed Schult in Wolfsburg for the new season.

The 64-time international is moving to Angel City FC in the USA.
