Blessing Afrippa completed a double with wins in the 100 and 200 meters in the Israeli Championships • But the 18-year-old sprinter is already looking ahead • "I am pleased with any improvement in the result, but it's all a matter of proportions"

The 86th Israeli Championship closed yesterday (Monday) at the renewed athletics stadium in Givat Ram in Jerusalem, with one of its stars, the sprinter Belsing Afrifa, who completed a double with the 100 and 200 meter wins, when he recently broke the Israeli record.

18-year-old Afrippa was born in Israel to parents who came from Ghana.

The sprinter has been marked for the last two years as the next thing in Israeli athletics and may be the one who can break the Israeli record in the fastest 100-meter run, held by Alex Porchomovsky from 1999 with 10.20 seconds.

"Within two weeks, I twice broke the Israeli record and I am very, very pleased," Afrifa told Israel Today.

"I'm happy, but I was expecting more. I'm happy with what I can do and see that there is, but I'm already looking at the next goals."

What are you working on in training?

"Working more on the jump. The start is the most important thing in such a short run of 100 and 200 meters, and I think that with all the training and continuity I show, my time will still get better and I will progress."

Improve this time "only" director is disappointing?

"I am happy with any improvement and lowering the result, but it is all a matter of proportions. I have another way to do and I believe that by the summer I will run much faster."

What was it like running at the renovated stadium in Jerusalem?

"Running in Jerusalem is always a special atmosphere, all my faith is here in Jerusalem. The track is also good and springy, everything here is really good and soft and I really enjoyed running here."

What are your next goals?

"I have another long summer, with my next goal being the World Junior Championships in Colombia in early August and the European Senior Championships in Munich, Germany."
