Frédéric Carlier, director of the UCPA Sport Station: "We absolutely want to reinvest in the hearts of the city"

After having opened similar structures in Meudon or Reims, the UCPA, specializing in sports stays, is attacking the capital

Inaugurated on June 13 in the 19th arrondissement, the UCPA Sport Station aims to be innovative by combining a youth hostel with a sports complex of nearly 3,000 m2 bringing together five sports.

"A place of exchange and sharing", the structure welcomes both a rather young clientele passing through and local residents who would like to practice a sporting activity in Paris intramural.

What is the concept of the UCPA Sport Station?

FREDERIC CARLIER.

The UCPA, historically, has been for holidays by the sea or in the mountains.

In recent years, we absolutely want to reinvest in the hearts of the city thanks to this Sport Station brand.

It is a hybrid project because it is both a youth hostel for young international travelers aged 18-30 who come to discover Paris, and a sports multiplex dedicated to the inhabitants of the territory, to Ile-de-France residents.

In the sports multiplex, we will find three main categories of sport: racket sports, fitness and climbing.

We also have the first two padel courts in Paris, five squash courts, three badminton courts, a climbing room, a crossfit room, a fitness room and a biking room.

The climbing room, which only offers bouldering, can accommodate up to 200 people at the same time.

Are the guests of the youth hostel also immersed in this sporting universe?

Absolutely, we want to offer our youth hostel customers the opportunity to discover Paris through sports.

The main reason for their coming is to discover the capital, but we want to offer more than accommodation, a place to live.

They will practice a lot outdoors with us thanks to running sessions, bike rides or even scooter rides.

Why did you settle in the 19th arrondissement?

In 2014, there was a call for projects from the City of Paris on this site, which is a former industrial wasteland.

We worked in collaboration with Linkcity, to offer our hostel-sport complex.

The fertile island is the first zero carbon district of Paris.

There is very little energy consumption, we pay attention to the environment and reduce waste as much as possible.

This area has been undergoing renovation for several years now.

We are going to bring our stone to the building and continue to animate it.
