Rafael Nadal's tour of Wimbledon opened tonight (Tuesday) with a four-set victory over the stubborn Argentine Pecondo Serondolo.
The Spaniard, who wants to complete a win in the first three tournaments of the year, won both sets 4: 6, 3: 6 and looks on the way to an easy victory, but the 41st ranked Serondolo won 3: 6 in the third and stretched the 2008 and 2010 champions.
With a 4: 5 advantage in the fourth set Nadal achieved the break and won 4: 6.
For Matteo Bartini, one of the favorites to win the tournament after opening the turf season with a 0: 9 balance, the tournament ended even before it started.
The Italian, last year's finalist, was positive for Corona and was forced to retire;
"I'm broken, I have no words to describe the magnitude of my disappointment," wrote the eighth-ranked.

Gregor Dimitrov (15) also finished the tournament due to retirement.
In his case an injury in the game against Steve Johnson led to that.
Those who will be in the second round are Nick Kirius, who defeated the anonymous British Paul Jab in five sets and at the end was seen spitting at the English fans.
The Australian explained at the end;
"It's aimed at one of the people who did not respect me, definitely. I do not spit on people who encourage me."
He was joined by Diego Schwartzman (12), Riley Opelka (15), Alex Di Minor (19).
