"The best coordinator in Europe": Lorenzo Brown completes the puzzle at Maccabi Tel Aviv | Israel Today

The Yellows' new acquisition squeezes compliments from Kazan's general manager, in which he starred last season: "I can say nothing about him except the best things" • With 103 games in the NBA, a tenure in China, and three years of experience in the Euroleague: Maccabi signed the most important player, in the most problematic position

Maccabi Tel Aviv has been looking for its coordinator for several years. All its attempts were unsuccessful and since then Tyrese Rice and Jeremy Fargo have not been a figure in Maccabi's position. In general, position number 1, which was very weak for the Yellows, will be significantly strengthened this summer, and Wade Baldwin is also on his way to signing.

With all due respect to everyone, Brown may not be the biggest acquisition of the summer, but he is definitely the most important acquisition.

All players in all other positions will not be able to express themselves without having someone to manage them.

Brown after an excellent season in Kazan rose to the top of the coordinators in the Euroleague.

His general manager in Kazan, Claudio Caldabela, has no doubt at all: "The best coordinator in Europe," he tells Israel Today.

"I can say nothing about him except the best things," he added.

The big innovation at Maccabi this season will be a player who thinks delivery first and foremost.

Brown had an average of 6.1 assists (two in the factory) last season in Kazan, which ended the season in the Euroleague early due to the removal of the Russians.

As stated this is his profession: coordinator.

For six years he had what might be called an "indecisive career."

Brown, the 52nd pick in the 2013 draft, played in the Development League (in 2018 he was named player of the season) gave outings to the NBA for 103 games on four teams and also had a tenure in China.

The 31-year-old's career took a turn towards the end of his 20s, when he found his place in European basketball.

He comes to Maccabi with three years of Euroleague experience.

But unfortunately, two of them did not come to an end.

One because of the corona and the other, because of the war in Ukraine.

First stop was Partizan Belgrade, where he had a pretty good season, but it was a mediocre team.

He moved to Fenerbahce, where he had a less than good season under Igor Kokushkov.

He did not play first violin and in the Turkish playoffs, when only five foreigners could be registered, he was not on the roster.

Brown did not get the space and confidence he needed.

A player like him should be the main decision maker on the floor and in practice the role went to Nando de Colo.

Plus, the most important thing is timing.

Brown came to Fenner during the Great Revolution after the departure of coach Zelimir Oberdovich and a significant number of key players, with a smaller budget, but the expectations remained the same.

It was a difficult time to get into a club of this magnitude and indeed overall, it was not the ideal place for him.

His best season in Europe came last season with Kazan and coach Valir Prasovic.

The ambitious team, which came from the Eurocup to the Euroleague, was tailor-made exactly to its dimensions.

There he returned to be the leader, the man who determines every move on the parquet.

Confidence returned and if the Russian teams were not ousted because of the war, this season could have ended with a team achievement for Kazan and perhaps also a personal title for Brown who stood out very much as one of the best guards in the factory.

After the Russian activities in the Euroleague were stopped, Brown returned to the United States, but returned to Russia with most of his teammates and helped his team reach the semi-finals of the VTB League.

A point where the new hub is not stable enough is in outside shooting.

His European averages are around 30 and only a few percent, although in given games he can deliver the goods out of the arc.

As for the locker room, Oded Katash can be relaxed.

Both Coldella and Milan Tomic, the coach who brought him to the Red Star, testify that he is a "very positive personality."

And an important point to conclude.

The Spanish national team does not use the citizens except in rare cases.

There is a possibility that Brown will play in the national team as a citizen at the European Championships in September.

A disadvantage in the position of coordinator due to the retirement of Sergio Rodriguez and the injury of Ricky Rubio led to the opening of the possibility, but the chances are not clear at this stage due to bureaucratic limitations.
