The 39-year-old American, who was part of the squad at the Tokyo Olympics, was selected to lead the team in the World Cup qualifiers • "We hope we can recruit a number of senior players from the MLB" he said after the appointment

The Israeli national team player from the Olympic Games and the former world baseball champion, Ian Kinsler, was chosen to coach the Israeli national team at the world championships next year.

Kinsler, 39, will begin his coaching career with the blue-and-white players, some of whom were teammates at the Tokyo Olympics.

After being selected for the MLB All-Star Game four times as a player and winning the championship in 2018, Kinsler received his Israeli citizenship in early 2020.

"We hope to be able to recruit a number of senior MLB players such as Max Fried, Alex Bergman and Jock Pederson to play for the Israeli national team, and some have already expressed their desire to wear the national team uniform. Our goal is to qualify for the Final Four, and this time we hope to have A team that can compete at those levels, "Kinsler said.

"I was very excited when I was asked to coach the Israeli team at the World Championships and it did not take me long to decide. I enjoyed my experience playing there and now that I know Israeli baseball well from the Olympics, I am convinced we will have a very competitive squad," Kinsler said. "We look forward to visiting Israel this summer and seeing the young talents at the Maccabiah Games. We are already working hard to put together a winning squad and make all our fans happy."

Kinsler will arrive in Israel in the coming weeks with his family to attend the Maccabiah Games, where he will be one of the five torchbearers at the opening ceremony in Jerusalem on July 12 and will give baseball workshops to all players in the Ezra Schwartz field in Raanana the following week. Baseball will hold a press conference to discuss his plans for the Israeli team at the World Championships.

"The fact that Kinsler will be the team's manager gives us a huge advantage in recruiting senior players from the senior baseball league in the United States, in addition to being a manager with a real analytical approach to the game," said Israeli Baseball Association president Jordi Alter.

Kinsler brings with him experience from the World Championships as a player: he played in the second base and was the opening batsman of the US team in 2017, when the Americans won the gold medal. He retired from active play in 2019 after 14 seasons in the MLB. In the championship after Brad Osmos who led the team in the qualifiers in 2012 and Jerry Weinstein who guided the team through the qualifiers in 2016 until the sixth place in the main tournament in 2017.
