The Angers Criminal Court on Wednesday sentenced SCO Angers supporters to two to four months in prison with s

They were found guilty of misbehavior during the match against Olympique de Marseille in Ligue 1 last September.

Prosecuted for "entering a playground in a sports enclosure that undermines the safety of people and property", two supporters aged 36 and 32 were given a two-month suspended prison sentence and a one-year ban on stadium.

The other two, aged 27 and 32, also prosecuted for "violence in meetings", were more heavily punished, sentenced to four months in prison suspended and one year ban on entering a sports arena.

During the hearing at the end of March, the prosecution had requested suspended sentences ranging from two months to a year in prison, accompanied by stadium bans ranging from one to three years.

One of the defendants, aged 23, was however released.

The incidents occurred after the meeting between Angers and Marseille (0-0) in the Ligue 1 championship, shortly before 11:00 p.m., when the players had already returned to the locker rooms and the stands were beginning to empty.

According to the account given to the hearing, confirmed by a video, firecrackers burst on the side of the Marseille supporters who, overflowing the stewards, entered the field and headed towards their Angevin counterparts.

At the beginning of October, the Disciplinary Committee of the Professional Football League had cracked down after these incidents, Marseille notably receiving a suspended one-point withdrawal.

Angers had been sanctioned with two games behind closed doors for its Coubertin stand, one of which was suspended, and a fine of 20,000 euros.
