The dying of favorites in Wimbledon continues: With Karolina Pliskova, the fifth of the ten best-seeded players was eliminated. Iga Świątek, on the other hand, is one lap further, but like Rafael Nadal, she wobbled briefly.

Completely surprisingly, last year's finalist Karolina Pliskova was eliminated in round two of the grass classic in Wimbledon.

The sixth-seeded Czech lost to British Katie Boulter 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 4-6.

This means that five of the ten best-seeded players are no longer there in the third round.

Meanwhile, world number one Iga Świątek has extended her impressive winning streak and reached the next historic mark.

The Pole defeated Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove of the Netherlands 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 with unexpected difficulty and advanced to the third round with her 37th success in a row.

The Swiss Martina Hingis last celebrated so many victories in a row on the WTA tour in 1997.

Legend Martina Navratilova holds the record with 74 successes.

Top favorite Świątek now meets Alizé Cornet from France in the round of the top 32.

Pattinama Kerkhove, who had only slipped into the main draw because another player had canceled, kept up surprisingly well.

After being 4-2 behind, French Open winner Świątek won four games in a row in the first set at the end of the period.

After losing the second set, Świątek regained her sovereignty.

Williams conqueror Harmony Tan strong again

The day was less strenuous for Simona Halep.

The Romanian defeated Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens 7-5, 6-4.

Halep now meets Magdalena Frech from Poland on Saturday.

Williams conqueror Harmony Tan followed up after her surprise win in round one.

The 24-year-old French won the second round against Sara Sorribes Tormo from Spain, who was 32nd, 6:3, 6:4.

On Saturday, Tan meets British Katie Boulter.

After the dramatic three-set win over Williams, Tan caused a stir when she canceled her double start, allegedly injured.

Her intended partner Tamara Korpatsch from Hamburg gave free rein to her anger about the short-term cancellation on Instagram, but both have now spoken out.

Angelique Kerber's opponent is now also certain.

The former tournament winner meets Elise Mertens in the third round on Friday.

The world rankings-31.

from Belgium won the continuation of their match, which had been interrupted the night before, against Panna Udvardy from Hungary 3:6, 7:6 (7:5), 7:5.

Kerber (Kiel) lost the only duel with Mertens in Doha in 2019.

Nadal still in the race for the calendar Grand Slam

Rafael Nadal wobbled for men, but then prevailed.

The Grand Slam record winner from Spain won against the Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis 6: 4, 6: 4, 4: 6, 6: 3 and now meets Lorenzo Sonego from Italy.

For Nadal it was the 16th success in one of the four largest tennis tournaments in a row.

The 36-year-old, who had to go four sets in the first round, is still in contention for the calendar Grand Slam, the triumph at the four biggest tennis tournaments in one season.

Nadal has already won the Australian and French Open despite his chronic foot problems.

He last triumphed at Wimbledon in 2010.
