The expected signings of Pierre Corno and Franzi Piero at Maccabi Haifa have established the Greens as a significant force.
According to reports in France, the left-back and striker were in demand in well-known teams in France, but in the end they chose Maccabi Haifa - which proves that the Israeli champion is able to compete in bigger clubs as well.
Corno, who had a great season with Real Oviedo, was marked by Auxerre who returned a few weeks ago to the top league in France after 10 years.
The Burgundy team wants to add a left-back who will compete for the team shirt with veteran Kentan Bernard and according to reports, Corno was the leading candidate.
But now Auxerre will have to look for another player.
Piero is known to have been in the sights of Saint-Etienne and did choose the green shirt, but that of Maccabi Haifa and not of the French Empire.
Saint-Etienne's glorious history tells the story of Michel Platini, 10 championships and the 1976 European Championship final, but last season the team was relegated and therefore the budget was reduced.
Piero hesitated and was finally persuaded to come to Israel after Maccabi Haifa increased its offer to an amount that Saint-Etienne could not compete with.

Corno and Piero have not yet signed with Maccabi Haifa, but all the details of the deals have been agreed and they are expected to officially join the Greens in the next two days.
