Crowd favorite Andy Murray was eliminated in the second round of the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon.

The two-time winner from Great Britain lost to the American John Isner 4: 6, 6: 7 (4: 7), 7: 6 (7: 3), 4: 6 and could not achieve his worst performance at the home tournament in the 14th participation impede.

The audience on Center Court said goodbye to the 35-year-old tennis pro on Wednesday evening with loud applause.

The 2.08 meter tall Isner served 36 aces and never gave up his serve.

"It was an incredible honor to play against him on this pitch," said 37-year-old Isner.

»That was one of the greatest moments of my career.«

Isner now meets the Italian Jannik Sinner in the third round.

Not a good day for the British fans

Murray left the field as a loser for the first time in his ninth duel with Isner.

Despite an artificial hip, he recently caught up with the world leaders again and was in the final of the tournament in Stuttgart.

At his 14th Wimbledon tournament, however, the 35-year-old from Scotland missed the third round for the first time.

Only Boris Becker (14), Novak Djokovic (16), Jimmy Connors (17) and Roger Federer (18) had survived their second round match at the All England Club more often than Murray.

The British fans had suffered a heavy loss in the tournament before.

Ten seeded US Open champion Emma Raducanu lost to France's Caroline Garcia 3-6, 3-6.
