FIFA announced yesterday (Wednesday) that it has sold over 1.8 million tickets for the World Cup in Qatar, ahead of the next round of ticket sales that will open on Tuesday - 5.7. The Arabian Gulf bought the largest number of tickets.

Apart from Qatar, the top countries where fans have bought tickets are Canada, England, France, Germany, India, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the United Arab Emirates and the United States, FIFA said in a press release.

The spokesman said that FIFA expects to reach the sale of about 3 million tickets for the games during the 28-day tournament, which will open on November 21.

The next round of sales will remain open until August 16, and tickets will only be approved on a paid basis based on any previous winner.

The final stage of selling the tickets at random closes at the end of April.
