Two weeks before the World Championships in Athletics in Eugene/Oregon, the two-time European champion Gesa Krause experienced only a mixed start to the season over 3000 meters obstacle.
At the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm, she finished eighth in 9:44.44 minutes.
"That's a little slap in the face," said the 2019 World Cup third in an interview with the Sky TV channel.
"Those are not the times I train for."
Krause's personal best is 9:03.30 minutes.
The 29-year-old had been suffering from a cold for two weeks and therefore did not compete in the German championships in Berlin last weekend.
"I hope that I'll regain my strength quickly," said Krause and was at least happy to have contested a race this season.
»It's a shame that I can't repeat the results I've shown in training.
I hope that's still slumbering in me.«
After the outdoor record, Duplantis still sees "room for improvement"
World record holder Armand Duplantis set a new outdoor pole vault record in Stockholm.
The Swede jumped 6.16 meters in the second attempt.
At 6.20 meters, Duplantis holds the world record that he set indoors in March.
'A wonderful feeling.
It's something special to jump on the track I train on," said Duplantis: "I live ten minutes away, so I wanted to defend my territory somehow." The 22-year-old has held up since jumping over 6.15 meters in 2020 the outdoor record, which he now screwed up by another centimeter.
The Swedish audience "additionally motivated him," explained Duplantis, but he still had "room for improvement."
Long jump Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo reached fifth place in the long jump with 6.72 meters.
In the javelin throw, German champion Julian Weber took third place with 89.08 meters behind world champion Anderson Peters (90.31 meters/Grenada) and Olympic champion Neeraij Chopra (89.94/India).
100-meter Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs canceled his start at short notice.
As the organizers announced, the Italian had felt pain during training the day before.
His coach Paolo Camossi explained that Jacobs had complained of gluteal discomfort.
A few days before the World Cup (July 15th to 24th) on Thursday they "didn't want to take the risk".
