Rare public appearance: Franz Beckenbauer meets the women's national team

Franz Beckenbauer is in poor health and is therefore not often seen in public.

Now the DFB women met the “Kaiser” in Herzogenaurach.

Herzogenaurach – In May, Rudi Völler celebrated his retirement from professional business, and his most important companions were invited.

However, Franz Beckenbauer, under whom Völler became world champion in 1990, was unable to attend the farewell.

“Of course he would have liked to come.

Unfortunately he's not doing so well," explained the long-time managing director from Leverkusen.

Now, the German football luminary was somewhat surprisingly seen in Herzogenaurach, Franconia.

The German women's national team got in shape over the past few days at the training camp in Herzogenaurach, and the European Championships begin in England on June 7th.

At the so-called home ground on the Adidas site, where the men also prepared for the last European Championship, the team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg met the “Kaiser”.

As Bild reports, Beckenbauer was on the premises for an appointment at the main headquarters of the sporting goods manufacturer and happened to bump into the German women.

FC Bayern striker Linda Dallmann was one of the players who took advantage of the moment, the 27-year-old was photographed with the 76-year-old and posted the photo on her Instagram story.

Beckenbauer wished the players and staff every success at the tournament in England.

The team left the home ground on Friday and will head to the island on Sunday.

The first group game of the European Championship against Denmark is scheduled for next Friday.

Caution is advised right from the start, because at the last European Championship in 2017 in the Netherlands, it came to a surprising end in the quarter-finals against the Danes.

Denmark made it to the final, but lost to the hosts there.

In view of his condition, it is anything but a matter of course that Beckenbauer appeared in public.

The man from Munich only had to undergo an eye operation in 2019, and heart surgery was necessary in 2016 and 2017.

In March 2021 he was a guest in the Allianz Arena for the last time and looked weak and skinny.

In the most recent picture, however, he looks healthy and happy - now it is to be hoped that the national team was able to draw strength from the encounter with the football icon.
