FIFA officially announced yesterday (Thursday) that the semi-automatic differential technology will go into action at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
This is an innovative system that has been tested in recent years in quite a few friendly and youth games and has also passed the "live" test in the Club World Cup in February with great success.
The system collects up to 29 different pieces of information at a rate of 50 times per second - as for each player associated with the move being tested, processes the data and reaches a final conclusion in almost real time, and everything is automatically passed to the VAR refereeing team.
Should lead to a final decision in cases of dissent within 3 to 4 seconds only.
