Sports fans are asked to pay: the streaming service DAZN is doubling its prices.
Many existing customers make their termination public.
Ismaning - If you want to see the Champions League and the Bundesliga in the coming season, you have to dig much deeper into your pocket.
The streaming service DAZN has secured more and more broadcasting rights in recent years - fans will soon see the episode on their bank statement.
As in the previous season, DAZN shows almost all Champions League games as well as the Bundesliga games on Friday and Sunday.
The streaming offer also includes other sports such as darts, various tennis tournaments through the cooperation with Eurosport or a lot of US sports.
DAZN: New prices - existing customers pay twice as much
From this Friday, the paid streaming service will send corresponding messages to those customers who currently have a cheaper subscription.
DAZN had already received a lot of criticism in January when it drastically increased the costs for new customers.
DAZN price increase at a glance
Before | now | |
---|---|---|
monthly subscription: | €14.99 | €29.99 |
annual subscription: | €149.99 | €299.88 |
Now also applies to the old customers:
The costs for a monthly subscription have practically doubled, rising from 14.99 to 29.99 euros.
The cheapest contract for one year costs EUR 274.99 instead of EUR 149.99
.
However, this is not available directly from DAZN, but only through partners such as Google or Apple.
There was initially no official statement on this.
DAZN: Costs for expensive rights reason for price increase
The increase in price is due to the expansion course of the online broadcaster.
DAZN had recently invested massively and outperformed competitors in bidding for the media rights of the German Football League and UEFA.
In January, the explanation for the enormous price increase was: “The sports platform is doing justice to the quality and value of its range, which has been greatly expanded since the start of the season, and is positioning itself in the market structure with a reasonable price.”

A veritable flood of sports fans are venting their displeasure on Twitter.
Numerous users document their terminations with a screenshot or even a video.
“I canceled DAZN yesterday.
How greedy can you be?" asks a fan. "I'm out.
This is ridiculous,” writes another.
"Before I pay almost €700 to watch football on Sky and DAZN, I'd rather go back to good old teletext," announces another user.
With all the understandable frustration about expensive football subscriptions, it is worth taking a look at other countries - because in comparison, fans in Germany (still) get away fairly cheaply.
