Jule Niemeier's successful run at the grass classic in Wimbledon has at least stopped in doubles.

Before her singles round of 16, the 22-year-old Dortmund tennis player lost the second-round match alongside Andrea Petković in doubles on Saturday against the favored Chinese duo Xu Yifan and Yang Zhaoxuan 3: 6, 6: 0, 5: 7.

Niemeier and Petković were already 5:3 ahead in the decisive set, but had to admit defeat after 1:40 hours.

This means that there are no longer any Germans in the women's doubles competition.

In a singles duel with Brit Heather Watson on Sunday, Niemeier has the chance to make it into the quarter-finals.

For Tatjana Maria, as the second remaining German in the round of 16, it is already the best Grand Slam result of her career.

The 34-year-old also meets Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia on Sunday.

In doubles, Niemeier was unable to hold her serve in the decisive set when the score was 5:3.

In the subsequent service game, the number ninth seeded Chinese fended off a match point from the German duo and made the victory perfect with a total of four game wins in a row.

Co-favorite Gauff surprisingly out

In the individual competition, French Open finalist Coco Gauff was eliminated in the third round.

The 18-year-old from the USA lost on Center Court against her compatriot Amanda Anisimova (20) 7: 6 (7: 4), 2: 6, 1: 6.

After her success in Paris, Gauff was one of the favorites, in the All England Club she had already reached the round of 16 twice (2019 and 2021).

Anisimova is now there, just like this year at the Australian Open and in Roland Garros.

Anisimova now meets Harmony Tan.

The world number 115.

from France defeated Serena Williams in the first round and continues her winning streak.

On Saturday, Tan defeated Great Britain's Katie Boulter 6-1, 6-1.
