Eddy Merckx has won the Tour de France six times.

Yes, yes, you read correctly, six times, in 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1974… but also 1975. A last coronation that Jean Cléder adds to the prize list of the “Cannibal” in a tasty story combining the work of a historian, analysis but also fiction.

Agrégation of letters, lecturer at the University of Rennes, this cycling enthusiast who had already written the excellent and offbeat "Bernard facing Hinault" (2016), rewrites the history of this 1975 season so special for the rider Belgian, author of a smashing start to the year auguring a new coronation on the Grande Boucle.

But the queen event did not go as planned with the final victory of Bernard Thévenet.

No matter, on the basis of a detailed investigative work, the author remakes the

story, disguises the legend to venture into an extremely original exercise.

The most daring cycling book of the year.

A success.

Eddy M. 1975, by Jean Cléder Mareuil

Thévenet, the illustrated myth, in collaboration with Jean-Paul Vespini, Mareuil Éditions

He is the man who put an end to the hegemony of Eddy Merckx on the Tour de France by overthrowing the Belgian on the slopes leading to Pra-Loup.

Bernard Thévenet, with his two victories in the Grande Boucle (1975 and 1977), remains one of the greatest champions in the history of French cycling.

The work prepared in collaboration with Jean-Paul Vespini pays tribute to the Burgundian, now 74 years old.

The story of his career as a runner but also as a commentator behind the microphone is accompanied by a rich iconography.

Reading the testimonials of his former teammates and collaborators also helps to better understand the popularity of "Nanard".

The Tour de France back side, Jean-Louis Pagès, Éditions Kennes

Man in the shadow of the great barnum of the Tour de France, Jean-Louis Pagès was for a very long time one of the key figures in the organization of the event.

Director of the Tour de France sites for thirty years, the young retiree takes the reader behind the scenes of the race, in all those corners that do not always appear on the small screen.

How the podiums are set up and taken down, how the arrival sites are selected months before the event to accommodate 2,400 vehicles and 4,500 people, Pagès details the workings of a meticulous and extraordinary organization, not forgetting to spice up his story with anecdotes collected over the editions.

Stages, Alpe d'Huez, standard of cycling in Isère, Éditions Glénat

Iconic, unmissable, magical but also cruel, Alpe d'Huez and its mythical 21 hairpin bends will be on the Tour de France program this year.

And as luck sometimes does things well, the stage will fall on July 14, just to make the event a little crazier.

Glénat returns to this event with a beautiful album devoted to this monument of sport, under several facets, often original.

Detailed description of the route, mythical editions, the story also lingers on the bikes that have allowed heroes to shine for more than a century on the slopes.

We appreciated the “punk” portrait of Jeannie Longo or the spectacular roads of the wonderful Oisans massif.

Mark Cavendish, Tour de Force, My historical tour of France, Solar Editions

He will be one of the big absentees from the Grande Boucle 2022 which he hoped to compete in one last time, just to rub shoulders with the best sprinters with the hope of winning a 35th victory in the queen event.

The one that would have allowed him to overtake the giant Eddy Merckx on the list.

At 37, "The Man of Man", loses an opportunity to extend his legend and expand an incredible track record.

What does his absence matter!

Tour de Force, my historic Tour de France

is the story of the resurrection of one of the greatest sprinters in history.

That of an athlete who found himself without a team at the end of the 2020 season and who had found a place with Deceuninck-Quick Step (with the minimum wage, or 40,000 euros).

An exceptional last stand of honor since the 2021 edition allowed him to sign four additional stage victories and to finish with the green jersey at stake in Paris!

Cavendish recounts this formidable saga day by day with a sense of humor and an open tongue that are his own in the heart of the peloton.

The guide bike, by Nicolas Pertuis and Sébastien Jacquet, Éditions Solar and L'Équipe

With the imminent start of the Tour de France, the ants are back in your legs and you start dreaming of yourself in the skin of a Wout Van Aert or a Nairo Quintana setting fire to the bitumen?

The opportunity is too good to take the bike out of the garage and get back in the saddle!

The guide bike is aimed at all those who like to tease the pedal, whatever the level, or the age, by offering the most elementary bases but also the more advanced advice.

How to choose your bike, maintain it, adopt the right positions, train methodically and even eat well.

The Bible, very didactic and above all extremely well illustrated, is divided into three parts: "Equip yourself", "Roll" and "Improve".
