Czech world number 66 Marie Bozkova qualified for the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon Women's Tennis Championships, the third major tournament held in London on grass courts.
Bozkova's qualification came after she beat French world number 44 Caroline Garcia in two sets without a response, 7-5, 6-2, in less than two hours. The Frenchwoman had won the Bad Hamburg Championship before her participation in Wimbledon.
This is the best result for the Czech player in the Grand Slam tournaments as a whole, while the French had reached the quarter-finals of the French Roland Garros in 2019, and she also reached the fourth ranking in the world earlier.
On the other hand, Germany’s Tatiana Maria qualified for the same round after defeating Latvia’s Jelena Ostopenko in two sets, 5/7, 7/5, 7/5. The most prominent surprises today are to meet her compatriot Jules Niemeyer, who beat Britain’s Heather Watson 6/2 and 6/4. Best score in major tournaments for both players.
