It's Kurt Gimmy (Switzerland, three participations in the Tour in the early 1960s) in the Col d'Aspin.
My father was overjoyed because on his shorts there was marked “Carpano”, he told me Coppi ran for Carpano.
I saw in the immense mountain this runner alone.
My father told me about runners during the winter and I discovered runners during the summer in the Pyrenees where I lived.
I discovered the Tour by discovering the climbers.
I was a child amazed on the side of the road, with the car parked in the lace, the camping table, the meals prepared by mum, the charcuterie, the lemonade… And there, we are waiting for the runners.
The charm of the mountain is that we saw them pass one by one at the time.
What was your first big emotion with this race?
