Wimbledon today in the live ticker: Small disappointment before the quarterfinals between Niemeier and Maria
For both of them, getting into the top eight in a Grand Slam tournament means the greatest success of their careers.
However, there was a small initial disappointment in the run-up: The game will take place first of the day on Court 1, the second largest square in the facility - and not on Center Court. That was the result of the fixtures on Monday.
Both players have already won once on this course during the tournament: 22-year-old Niemeier in the second round against world number three Anett Kontaveit from Estonia, twelve years older Maria in the round of 16 against Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia.
Only for the fifth time in the professional era are two German players in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.
The top seeded defending champion Novak Djokovic from Serbia and Jannik Sinner from Italy will start on the center court on Tuesday (2.30 p.m.).
Afterwards there will be the second women's quarter-final between Marie Bouzková and Ons Jabeur.
