The three-time defending champion explained at a press conference the importance of his toilet break, when he was back to the wall facing the Italian.

On his complicated start to the match

“I started very well, I was leading 4-1 and I even almost got the double breaker.

Then I moved against the wind and I made a very bad service game with two double faults, two missed drop shots to lose the service 4-3, and the Momentum passed on his side.

I started to doubt my shots.

He started to believe in himself.

He just had a better mentality on the pitch.

He dictated the game. I didn't hold the rallies.

He read my services well and attacked them.

So I was really in defense mode.

There wasn't much positive for me in terms of the game. I was too passive.

And on grass, it can go very quickly.

On the saving toilet break

I took a bathroom break at the end of the second set and took the opportunity to talk to myself in the mirror to cheer myself up. It was just a pep talk, a positive talk.

It boosted me.

I did it after losing two sets in the French Open final against Tsitsipas, and today it worked.

It doesn't always work.

It is not a guarantee.

But I felt that I had to change something.

I wasn't playing well, I didn't feel good on the court, I was dominated by Sinner.

But I always believed that I could come back.

Luckily Grand Slams are best of five, so I had the opportunity to come back.

On the remount

I have experience of this kind of situation.

It was two different types of matches and I felt completely different from the start of the third.

On the way back, I had the chance to break quickly in the third set, it gave me confidence and I felt that he had started to doubt.

I kind of played a new game.

I played the last three really solid and very high quality sets.

From the start of the third set, when I first grabbed his serve, I felt I had found my rhythm and tempo.

On the experience of the 5th set

"

I feel like Sinner, coming into the match, didn't have much to lose, but he had a lot to lose when he was leading by two sets to nil.

I could feel it mentally.

Sinner is a young player, who hasn't played many five-set matches in his life.

It was his first quarter-final here.

I've done a lot...

"

On his future opponent Cameron Norrie

I trained a few times against him.

I know his game well. We only played against each other in the last Masters.

Here the tournament is different, the environment is different.

He will have a whole country behind him on Center Court in the semi-finals.

I know what to expect.

He won't have much to lose.
