The Women's Euro will take place tonight (Wednesday, 22:00, Sport 2) in the opening match between England and Austria.

In preparation for the competition that is going to break unprecedented records, we have given you an overview of the favorite teams, the stars of the tournament and the chances of winning.

Host England reached the final twice and lost.

In 1984, in the first championship, she was defeated on penalties by Sweden, and in 2009 she was defeated 6: 2 by Germany.

There is no doubt that the current team is the best that England has ever had.

She has not lost in her last 14 games, since April 2021, and has only grown stronger since Dutchman Serena Wigman was appointed head coach 10 months ago.

The 52-year-old Wigman was the coach who led the Dutch team to win Euro 2017 and the 2019 World Cup final.

England have won all of their last six games with a 2:30 goal difference.

In its last two pre-season games England have beaten the Netherlands 1: 5 and Switzerland 0: 4.

"This Euro will be the biggest women's tournament ever held in Europe," Wigman said.

"We are aware of the expectations we have and it is stressful, but we will have to deal. We have a good chance of making us all proud."

Seven English squad players come from Manchester City, including 21-year-old star Lauren Hemp, who has won the English League Player of the Year title four times.

But the most famous player is right-back Lucy Bronze, who won the Champions League with Lyon three times and signed with Barcelona a week ago.

England will play in House A, along with Norway, Austria and Northern Ireland, and also thanks to the home side they should qualify for the quarter-finals quite easily.

Norway should also qualify, much thanks to superstar Edda Hagerberg, who scored 42 goals in 70 games for the team.

Herberg, the Lyon star, retired from the team in 2017, in protest of the Norwegian association's discriminatory treatment of women.

But three months ago she decided to return, just in time for the euro.

Alongside her will star Carolyn Graham Hansen from Barcelona (43 goals in 95 games for the team), who lost to her in the Champions League final.

House B is the "death house" of the Euro, with only two from Spain, Germany and Denmark advancing to the quarter-finals.

Finland will try to surprise, but with a slim chance.

Spain has never won a Euro and in fact has never been considered a top European team.

But Barcelona's incredible success has made Spain the number one candidate to win according to the betting agencies.

Spain is basically a strengthened Barcelona.

The 10 players from Barça come from Barça, which won the championship this season, winning all its games.

Almost all of them will be in the lineup of coach Jorge and a girl, who has been coaching the team for seven years.

Alexia Pottias, who is considered the best player in the world today, is of course the superstar of the team but caused quite a few tears in the Spanish camp when it was learned that she will not be able to take part due to a tear in the cross strap.

Apart from her, we can see her teammates for "Blaugrana": goalkeeper Sandra Panius, brakemen "Muffy" Leon and captain Iran Pardes, liaison Eitna Bonamati and striker Claudia Pina.

Will the French break the glass ceiling?

Germany is the champion of Euro wins.

No less than eight times Germany has been crowned European champion, but the last win was nine years ago.

Women's football in Germany has been in decline in recent years, mainly due to the strengthening of the professional leagues in England, France and Spain.

Coach Martina Foss-Tecklenburg has won the Euro six times as an actress and now she is trying to do the same as a coach.

Germany's most prominent actress is 20-year-old midfielder Lena Oberdorf.

Denmark lost in the 2017 final to host Netherlands, but has shown how far it has progressed in recent years.

The big star is Pernil Harder, Chelsea striker, English champion.

The third European champions, the Netherlands and Sweden, who lost to Canada in the Olympic final in Tokyo a year ago, are set to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Switzerland and Portugal complete the house.

The Netherlands is coached by the Englishman Mark Parsons - who replaced Serena Wigman, who moved to coach the England team.

The Netherlands have in mind Vivian Midma, the wonderful Arsenal striker, who at the age of 25 is already counting 94 goals in 111 games in the national uniform.

Sweden is one of the biggest favorites and is ranked second in FIFA's world rankings, after the USA.

Veteran Kosovara Aslani, who signed for AC Milan last week, is Sweden's big star.

Beside her stands out Stina Blacktenus, who joined Arsenal in January.

France has received the most comfortable draw, and it should easily qualify from the fourth house, where Italy, Belgium and Iceland will fight for second place.

Naturally most of France's players come from Million, the new European champion, led by the amazing stopper Wendy Renard.

But the most brilliant player actually comes from PSG, 23-year-old striker Marie Antoinette Catuto, the French league's top scorer in three of the last four seasons.

The thing is, despite its huge pool of talent, France has never even reached the Euro semi-finals.

In this tournament the French are supposed to break their glass ceiling.

So who will be the new European champion on July 31?

Well, there is a good chance that this time a new name will appear on the trophy, as England, Spain and France want to do it for the first time.

The complete list of houses:

House A: England, Austria, Norway, Northern Ireland

House B: Germany, Denmark, Spain, Finland

House C: Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Portugal

House D: France, Italy, Belgium, Iceland
