His identity remains unknown, but an international player is now targeted by three rape charges.
According to British media The Telegraph, the player was held for around 30 hours before being released on bail.
The man, arrested in north London on Monday, was questioned about the charges against him by two women.
Already detained by the police for a first alleged fact, the player is now "suspected of two rapes which were allegedly committed in April and June 2021 on another woman in her twenties" says the Scotland Yard police.
She adds that “the investigation into the circumstances is ongoing”.
The first fact alleged against him would have taken place last June.
A 29-year-old player
The player's name hasn't been made public yet for legal reasons, but he is believed to be 29 years old.
The Telegraph even adds that he is an internationally renowned player.
He was undoubtedly due to participate in the next World Cup in Qatar, which takes place from November 21 to December 18.
His club is aware of his arrest but did not wish to speak to the media at this time.
He is not the first Premier League player to be suspected of serious offenses in recent months.
French international Benjamin Mendy is the subject of multiple charges.
A Brighton player was arrested in October for alleged sexual assault, before being acquitted last June.
