While England are in turmoil following the arrest of a Premier League footballer on suspicion of rape, a similar drama has been raging in Chile in recent days.
The reason: a similar complaint and involvement of the national team player, Eric Polgar.
The 28-year-old midfielder is considered one of the top Chilean footballers.
He played three and a half years in Bologna and then two and a half years in Fiorentina.
For the past six months he has been loaned to Glatsray.
A few days ago, a 24-year-old woman arrived at a police station and filed a rape complaint at the home of Polgar, who had 40 appearances for the Chile national team.
According to her, the contact and his friends met her at a nightclub in the town of Calero de Tango and throughout the evening she drank a large amount of alcohol.
She told investigators she got drunk and had difficulty standing, and at one point someone carried her into a vehicle, which continued from the club to Polgar's home in town.
The party continued at Polgar's home and according to various reports it was attended by 10-20 people, including well-known footballers.
According to a Chilean journalist, one of them was Gary Madel.
The young woman complained that she had lost consciousness, but when she woke up the next morning she was full of bruises on her legs.
A rape test conducted on her confirmed that she had indeed been raped.
Polgar was questioned by police and denied anything attributed to him.
His associates told the media that there were security cameras in the house that would prove beyond any doubt that he did not come into contact with the young woman at all and that if she had been raped, he had nothing to do with it.
The footballer was not included in Fiorentina's plans and guilty or not, meanwhile the Brazilian Corinthians - one of the biggest luxury clubs in South America - decided to withdraw from negotiations it had with him - in the shadow of suspicions against him.

In 2013 Polgar drove his car in the city of Antofagasta and hit a 66-year-old pedestrian. The footballer fled the scene without stopping and without helping the person he hit and passers-by said he was driving at what appeared to be speeding.
The injured man, Daniel Emparo, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and died.
The investigation revealed that Polgar, who was 19 at the time, did not hold a driver's license at all, but the judicial system in Chile decided to take pity on him because of his clean past and the fact that the man he ran over to death crossed the road in a forbidden place.
The footballer was then sentenced to probation only.
In 2019, Emporu's family demanded that the case be reopened and that Polgar be tried again.
His son said: "If there is anything that surprised us, it is that Polgar has not apologized to this day. My son (the deceased's grandson) met him once and went to talk to him, and Polgar threatened him."
