Former winner Simona Halep of Romania and Jelena Rybakina have reached the semi-finals of the classic Wimbledon grass court.
The 30-year-old Halep confirmed her position as a co-favorite on Wednesday with a 6-2, 6-4 in just 63 minutes against Amanda Anisimova from the USA.
Halep took the serve from her opponent four times and only got lost shortly before the end.
Anisimova was able to shorten the second set from 1: 5 to 4: 5, Halep angrily hit her thigh - and a little later she regained her old sovereignty.
"I kept believing in myself," she said.
The two-time Grand Slam tournament winner had won Wimbledon when she last participated in 2019 and has not yet lost a set in five games this year.
In the round of the top four, Halep meets Rybakina, who fought back strongly in the 4: 6, 6: 2, 6: 3 against the unseeded Ajla Tomljanovic from Australia.
17th seed Rybakina is in a Grand Slam semifinal for the first time at 23.
The other semi-final is played by German tennis player Tatjana Maria against world number two Ons Jabeur from Tunisia.
Maria had previously prevailed against Jule Niemeier in the German quarter-final duel.
