Two days after former basketball player Olsie Perry underwent amputation surgery at Sheba-Tel Hashomer Hospital, this morning (Friday) he issued a brief statement to thank all his friends, acquaintances and fans who support and care for his safety.
Perry, who celebrated his 72nd birthday earlier this week, said: "Following the media reports, I want to thank everyone for the support and love I receive, from family, friends and especially from Maccabi and the state. I gave my body and heart to basketball and the State of Israel and received no less! "I am proud to live in Israel, love my country, and thank everyone for their interest. I hope to return to myself soon and tell the story of my life that will give strength and inspiration to all those who need it. I promise to treat everything in an orderly manner soon. In the meantime, I want to respect my privacy."

Perry joined Maccabi Tel Aviv in 1976 and played in the media for nine years, until he retired in 1985.
He won with Maccabi Tel Aviv two European Championships, the Intercontinental Cup, seven Championships and six State Cups.
In 1985 he was arrested in the Netherlands in possession of a large quantity of drugs, extradited to the United States and sentenced to prison.
He returned to Israel in 1997 and has lived in the country ever since.
