Gymnast Artium Dolgofiat, the Olympic champion in the Tokyo 2020 ground exercise, injured his right foot and will not participate in the upcoming Israeli championship that will open in Hadar Yosef on July 19, as part of the 21st Maccabiah Games.
Dolgofiat is scheduled to carry the Maccabiah torch at the opening ceremony this coming Tuesday in Jerusalem in conjunction with Olympic gymnastics champion Linoy Ashram.
The Maccabi Tel Aviv Sports Club announced that the gymnast is suffering from a stress crisis in his foot.
After receiving the medical diagnosis, the medical team and his coaching staff, led by Sergei Weisburg, decided to give up his appearance at the Israeli championships.
His appearance at the European Championships in about five weeks in Munich is also in doubt.
Dolgofiat said: "I am disappointed with the situation I got into at this point in time. An injury is known to be part of the game. It is a pity that it happened to me before the Israeli Championship and the European Championship. I will do my best together with my medical and professional team For the Olympic Games, Paris 2024 ".
