The profile of the stage: Tomblaine - Super Planche des Belles Filles (176.3 km)

The Vosges massif stands on the course of the peloton with, as a dessert stage, the spectacular ascent to the Super Planche des Belles Filles and a peak at 1148 m.

Before battling it out with a climb classified in the first category, the riders will have swallowed 166.6 kilometers without major notable difficulties if we put aside the two climbs of the third category, the Col de la Grosse Pierre (3.1 km at 6.4%) and the Col des Croix (3.2 km at 6.3%).

Two appetizers that will serve as a warm-up before an expected explanation between the favorites for the general classification in the climb to the Vosges ski resort: 7 km at 8.7% average with a formidable last part, on a mid- tar, mid-earth and its terrible passage at 24%.

The prognosis

Thibaut Pinot has made this stage of the Tour de France 2022 one of his priority objectives.

The Groupama rider knows this hard and very irregular climb down to the smallest detail.

This is where he took his first slopes as a teenager and returns regularly to train, on a bike or cross-country skiing.

The profile of the last difficulty corresponds well to his qualities as a climber.

"

This climb is so irregular that it really hurts.

In the end, as an average percentage, we don't even have 9% on the entire climb, that doesn't represent a lot for 6 km but that's where we see that it doesn't mean much because it there's a lot of flat ground, that's what makes this climb so difficult.

It's a climb that goes very fast, it's often the first finish of the Tour.

Two years ago it was a breakaway that goes all the way but otherwise all future Tour winners can win here.

It is important to see where we are

, ”confided to Le Figaro the Frenchman who has checked the date of July 8 on his diary for very long weeks.

Not to be missed on the course:

In Tomblaine, the Tour de France caravan will set off under the protective gaze of a giraffe, a monumental sculpture by the artist Jean-No and a great curiosity of the Place des Arts.

Lovers of contemporary architecture will take the time to take a break at the Hill of Notre-Dame du Haut, where stands a chapel by Le Corbusier, a building listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The specialty to get your teeth into:

Treat yourself to a good Comtoise hotpot, but only if you have a big appetite, to be able to devour this dish made from cured meats, smoked Haut Doubs, Montbéliard sausage, Morteau sausage and bacon.

Otherwise, go with your eyes closed to the Cancoillotte, cheese specialty of Franche-Comté, to be enjoyed on a good slice of bread or accompanied by charcuterie.

The expression of the day: "Climb like an iron"

Said of a runner who has great difficulty climbing mountains.

Sprinters are unfortunately often referred to by this unflattering expression comparing them to a heavy and inert object on the slope.

Ex: “He climbs like an iron, he will end the day in the broom wagon.”
