It's going too fast now!

5:2 Maria:

Now the 34-year-old Maria shows all her coolness.

Again and again she sets unpleasant slices that her opponent can't do much with because they just stand still on the dull grass.

Jabeur makes mistake after mistake and Maria is close to equalizing the set.

4:2 Maria:

Jabeur stays tuned and this time has no problem putting pressure on the German.

4:1 Maria:

Very strong!

The German surprise of the tournament fights back strong as a bear and above all can reduce the number of mistakes significantly.

Then a magic strike from Jabeur!

On the defensive, she passes Maria with an actually impossible forehand slice.

But Maria counters with praise that is at least as heavy!

There's real music in here now.

3:1 Maria:

Yes!

Go then!

First break for the German because Jabeur has a small phase of weakness for the first time and makes a lot of mistakes.

The momentum swings towards Maria!

2:1 Maria:

"Tanne" takes the lead again!

Maria lacks a bit of luck in the game.

Many balls end up extremely close to the end.

Nevertheless, the German fights her way in and is rewarded!

The drawn one-handed backhand is one of her weak points, but she's doing really well at the moment.

2: 6 Jabeur: The Tunisian grabs the first set with a smooth service game.

Not much went for Maria - she needs to improve a lot if she wants to have a chance here.

2:5 Jabeur:

Is that the preliminary decision in the first sentence?

The spectators cheer for a great rally, which the German decides in the end.

But Jabeur reacts unimpressed and has another breakball - which she uses directly because Maria's net attack is not well prepared enough.

The level is slowly increasing.

The two friends don't give each other anything, but the Tunisian has the edge.

2:4 Jabeur:

Important!

She has to go above deuce again but then pulls herself out of the noose with a series of powerful serves.

1:3 Jabeur:

Maria no longer makes it so easy for her opponent to get easy points.

Nevertheless, the Tunisian prevails and secures the comfortable lead.

Maria acts a tad too passively.

But she is still fully involved in the first round.

1:2 Jabeur:

There's the first break!

Maria has more problems at the beginning than her opponent when serving on her own.

It's no surprise that Jabeur takes the initiative - the German has her strengths on the defensive.

Wimbledon: Tatjana Maria – Ons Jabeur in the live ticker

Update from July 7th, 2:01 p.m .:

It should start in less than half an hour!

Tatjana Maria starts in the first Grand Slam semi-final of her career.

Her opponent Ons Jabeur is clearly the favorite.

The Tunisian's biggest success so far is winning the Madrid Open last May.

A month later she also won the lawn classic in Berlin.

The heroine of the African tennis world is in the form of her life, but so is her German opponent.

Maria will once again try to unnerve her opponent with her awkward backhand slice.

The game is scheduled for 2.30 p.m., but we will keep you informed of any postponements.

First report from July 7th:

London – Only two more wins until the sensational title: Tatjana Maria is in the semi-finals of Wimbledon before the biggest game of her career so far.

On Thursday (2.30 p.m. CEST), the 34-year-old will meet Ons Jabeur from Tunisia, second in the world rankings, and could become the sixth German tennis player to reach the final of the classic lawn.

The opponent is no ordinary competitor for the mother of two.

The most important things about the game at a glance:

Initial situation:

Before the start of the tournament, Maria had never survived the third round of a Grand Slam.

“I gave birth to my second daughter (Cecilia) a good year ago.

If someone had told me back then that I would be in a Wimbledon semi-final a year later, I would have said it was crazy," Maria said before the game about her own story.

Wimbledon: Tatjana Maria reaches for the title – of all things against confidants

The opponent:

The 27-year-old Jabeur is not only the first Arab tennis professional in a Grand Slam semi-final.

The Tunisian is also one of the Maria family's best friends on the pro tour.

"I love Charlotte, she's so nice," Jabeur said of her opponent's eight-year-old daughter.

"She plays tennis, it's really wonderful to see her.

The little one is always smiling, she has great energy.

I just love the family as a whole.”

The Court:

For the first time at this tournament, Maria will serve on Center Court.

She has no good memories of two duels in the largest Wimbledon stadium: in 2019 she lost to the then defending champion Angelique Kerber in the first round, the year before it was over against the French Kristina Mladenovic.

"Hopefully it will work out the third time," said Maria.

Previous German Wimbledon finalists: So far there have been 14 finals in the women's competition with German participation.

In 1931, Cilly Aussem and Hilde Krahwinkel contested a German final, which Aussem won.

In the professional era (since 1968), Steffi Graf and most recently Angelique Kerber were able to secure the title seven times in 2018.
