The breakaway folded… and broke, this Saturday, during the eighth stage of the Tour de France.
After the losses of the Belgian Frederik Frison and the Italian Mattia Cattaneo, the Briton Fred Wright also failed to resist the rise of the peloton in the final kilometers of some 186 which separate Dole and Lausanne.
And the inevitable Tadej Pogacar was not far from taking advantage of it once again.
After maintaining his rank within the peloton throughout the entire route, the young 23-year-old Slovenian rider ended up overtaking Fred Wright in the odds of the Olympic stadium in Lausanne.
It was finally Wout Van Aert who crossed the finish line first followed very closely by the Australian Michael Matthews and Pogacar who completed the podium.
This is the Belgian's second stage success since the start of the Tour after that won alone in Calais on July 5.
