The profile of the stage: Aigle-Châtel the Portes du Soleil (192.9 km)

Before enjoying the first day of rest in Morzine, this Monday, the peloton marked by the efforts and speed of the last few days and worried about the resurgence of Covid cases will see the first mountain stage pose four climbs on its route: the Côte de Bellevue (4.3 km at 4%), Col des Mosses (13.3 km at 4.1%), Col de la Croix (8.1 km at 7.6%) and Pas de Morgins (1369 m: 15.4 km at 6.1%), climbed 4 times on the Tour (the first time in 1977, the last in 1997).

During a day taking a vast loop designed for 183 km in Switzerland, before the last 8 kilometers to climb to Châtel.

Lucien Van Impe (the last Belgian winner of the Tour, in 1976) won the only Tour finish in Châtel, in 1975, a time trial in the mountains during which he beat Bernard Thévenet.

Schedules:

The fictitious start will be given at 12:30 p.m., the real start of the stage being, at the end of the parade, given at 12:45 p.m.

The prognosis of… Cédric Vasseur (manager of the Cofidis team)

“Why not Ion Isagirre, from us?

It's a day in the mountains and he won the toughest stage in the Basque country.

We know that our leader Guillaume Martin doesn't have much leeway because he's only three minutes behind in the overall standings.

The peloton won't let him go too much and I think given how it's been over the past few days there's a slim chance a breakaway will play for the win before the rest day and Ion is our best bet. »

Not to be missed on the course:

Chillon Castle, a 12th century fortress that floats on Lake Geneva, the splendor of Switzerland.

A curiosity which, animated by exhibitions and cultural events, is listed as the most visited historical monument in Switzerland, according to the castle website.

The Tour will pass in front of the fortress at the 13th kilometer.

Fans of beautiful mechanics will rather take the path of the Hervé Foundation and its extremely rare vintage car jewels.

The specialty to get your teeth into:

Papet vaudois is a must, a specialty prepared with potatoes, leeks and sausage.

The origin of cabbage sausage dates back to 879. The dish is generally eaten from mid-September to April, but you can make an exception to the rule this summer.

At Châtel les Portes du Soleil, order a Berthoud, a dish from Haut-Savoyard based on an exceptional cheese, Abondance.

To accompany with a good glass of white wine.

Expression of the day: Unroll the carpet

Means that a runner places himself in front of his leader to protect him and print a good rhythm.

Ex: "No question of tempting the devil today guys, we're just rolling out the carpet for Polo today."
