Novak Djokovic won his 21st Grand Slam title at the Wimbledon tennis tournament.

The 35-year-old prevailed on Sunday afternoon in a varied final against Nick Kyrgios after three hours and one minute 4: 6, 6: 3, 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 3).

For Djoković it was already the seventh success at the traditional grass tournament in the London borough and also the fourth in a row.

The Serb is now missing a Grand Slam title to catch up with the current record winner Rafael Nadal (22).

The Spaniard had to miss his semi-final against Kyrgios due to an abdominal muscle injury.

Kyrgios kept up longer in the final under the eyes of Prince William, Duchess Kate and her son George than observers had given the unseeded Australian credit for before the match against the third in the world rankings.

With disciplined, strong serves and his simultaneously unorthodox style of play, to which Djoković initially found no answer, he even secured the first round with an ace after just 31 minutes.

After that, Djoković increased the pressure, improved his return game and forced Kyrgios to make more and more mistakes.

From then on, Kyrgios sank into soliloquy and complained more and more often about alleged disturbances by the viewers.

The restlessness was also increasingly noticeable in his game: Kyrgios seemed to lose focus, spectacular sprints and punches - sometimes through the legs - alternated with slight mistakes.

Djoković remained unimpressed and calmly took point after point.

In the fourth set, however, Kyrgios pulled himself together again, but Djoković converted his third match point in the tie-break after three hours and one minute.

It was still unclear whether he would attempt the Grand Slam record at the upcoming US Open (from August 29).

After missing the Australian Open in the spring after being refused entry, the professional who was not vaccinated against the corona virus will probably not be able to compete in the tournament in New York.
