2022 Wimbledon final round-up:

Novak Djokovic has successfully defeated the Australian rebellion at his grass-roots empire, Wimbledon.

The Serbian serial winner triumphed in the final over the "tennis villain" Nick Kyrgios and thus for the fourth time in a row at the All England Club.

After exactly three hours, the outstanding Djokovic converted his third match point to 4: 6, 6: 3, 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 3) against the unnerved Kyrgios.

With a total of seven titles in Wimbledon, he caught up with his youth idol Pete Sampras and is only one success behind record champion Roger Federer - he is also approaching the leader in the "eternal" Grand Slam ranking: after Djokovic's 21st triumph in the 32nd final Rafael Nadal (22 titles) is within reach again.

"This title means a lot to me, Wimbledon will always have a special place in my heart," said Djokovic, adding in Kyrgios' direction: "You have shown that you are one of the best players in the world.

I respect you very much and never thought I would say so many nice things about you."

Kyrgios vehemently resisted the defeat - but ultimately 30 aces didn't help the Australian.

"He's a bit of a god," Kyrgios said of Djokovic, adding: "I need a little vacation now.

I'm very happy with my performance and will come back.

It was great weeks for me here.”
