Tennis: Roger Federer and Serena Williams leave the world rankings

2022-07-11T10:13:12.331Z

The Swiss and the American, true legends of tennis but undermined by injuries, no longer appear among the ATP and WTA rankings.

This is a huge upheaval for world tennis.

Roger Federer and Serena Williams disappear from the ATP and WTA rankings.

The two tennis legends have been plagued by injuries for several years and haven't won points for too long.

The Swiss has won 20 Grand Slam titles in his career when the American has 23. Note that Novak Djokovic falls to 7th in the world despite 7th title at Wimbledon since the ATP has decided not to award points when due to the absence of the Russians, excluded from the tournament.

Repeated injuries

Roger Federer made his first appearance in the ATP rankings at the age of 16, almost... 25 years ago.

The Swiss has not played since the 2021 edition of Wimbledon when he lost in the quarter-finals to Hubert Hurkacz.

The Maestro has been operated on three times on the knee but does not intend to end his career soon to be 41 years old.

The 8-time Wimbledon winner is hoping for a final last stand on the London turf, as Novak Djokovic has just won his 7th title in London against Nick Kyrgios, and his 21st Grand Slam, overtaking Roger Federer of a unit.

Serena Williams has returned to the London lawn after a year's absence.

The American was eliminated in the first round by the Frenchwoman Harmony Tan.

The former world number 1 occupies the 1,204 world place in the WTA rankings and hopes to be able to participate in the next US Open at the end of August.
