After the World Cup - Another big sporting event was moved to Qatar for the winter.
The International Swimming Federation (FINA) World Championships in Doha are scheduled today (Wednesday) for February 2-18, 2024, six months before the start of the Paris Olympics.
This will be the first time in history that the World Swimming Championships will be held in an Olympic year and one of the few times it will not be held in the summer months (July-August), but in winter, just as will happen this year with the World Cup.
All this comes, following the further postponement of the Fukuoka World Championship until 2023, which caused changes in FINA's calendar ahead of the next Olympics, with the Japanese city set to host the event next year from 14 to 30 July.
The capital of Qatar, Doha, was supposed to present the 2023 edition in November, but this was postponed to 2024 with changes in the schedule.
The 2024 World Championships is scheduled to include 76 medals from swimming, figure swimming, open water swimming, water jumping, water polo and high jump.
By the way, because of this change, it was also decided to advance the European dominoes championship in Israel to 2023, from which teams will qualify for the world championships and the first tickets to the Olympics will be distributed.
