There is only one Thomas Müller?

Wolfsburg coach Niko Kovacs sees things a little differently and is full of praise for his player Max Kruse.

Munich – Thomas Müller can look back on a unique career: He has been playing for FC Bayern Munich for over 20 years, with whom he has won German championships and cups several times.

He is even the player with the most German championship titles: he and his team have won the title 11 times.

Müller has also often played for the national team and even became world champion in Brazil in 2014.

Nico Kovac compares Max Kruse with Thomas Müller

No wonder that old master Müller is an important role model for generations of footballers.

In this respect, it is probably not the worst thing to be compared to Müller – as happened to Max Kruse from Wolfsburg.

His coach Niko Kovac praised his player: "Max is a great boy, I only have positive things to say." He goes on to explain: "When he came to the performance tests, he was already at a very good level.

We had a very good conversation.

I know how important Max is to us.

He's a player who, despite his 34 years, can always score 15 goals a season and play five to ten more.

Always!

He has the quality that not many in the Bundesliga have.

When he's fit and physically able to do everything he can, he has skills like Thomas Müller."

How well do Niko Kovac and Max Kruse fit together?

Well, if this comparison isn't an accolade!

And that of all things from Kovac – as is well known, there was a crunch between him and Müller during his time as Bayern coach.

Previously, the question of how well Max Kruse and Niko Kovac fit together came up again and again.

Because the new coach Kovac attaches great importance to fitness and training diligence - neither of which are Kruse's greatest advantages.

With his hymn of praise for Max Kruse on Thursday at the VfL Wolfsburg training camp in Austria, Kovac made it clear that he thinks highly of the offensive player.

Kruse returned to VfL Wolfsburg at the end of January 2022 and signed a contract until June 30, 2023. He had previously played for Wolves from 2015 to 2016.

In the national team, Kruse and Müller were even teammates - until Jogi Löw gave up Kruse's services in March 2016.
