The French riders (who were the most numerous at the start in Copenhagen, 32, ahead of the Belgians, 18) are still pedaling after a stage victory this year.
We have to go back to 2016 and a success for Romain Bardet during the 19th stage to find traces of such a long wait on the Grande Boucle.
In the meantime, the spectators accompany the quest for the podium on the Champs-Élysées by Romain Bardet (4th at 2'35 behind Jonas Vingegaard) and David Gaudu (7th at 4'7).
"I was super encouraged all day, it was great,"
said Romain Bardet after a difficult arrival at Alpe d'Huez (12th stage) where he suffered from the heat and slowed down to save the essentials. :
"It's the Tour de France too, the days when we are less well, you have to know how to round your back."
The last podium for a Frenchman on the Tour dates from 2017 (the last victory dates back to Bernard Hinault in 1985).
