gave the host USA the next gold in the hammer throw at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene.

The 26-year-old Olympic tenth in Tokyo clearly prevailed with 78.96 meters ahead of Canadian Camryn Rogers (75.52).

Bronze also went to the USA through Janee Kassanavoid (74.86), who had already won titles on the opening day with 100-meter sprinter Fred Kerley and shot putter Chase Ealey.

The German champion Samantha Borutta (Frankfurt) was eliminated in the qualification.

DeAnna Price (USA), World Champion 2019 in Doha, canceled her start at the home World Cup due to a lack of training.

The most successful hammer thrower in history was also missing: world record holder Anita Wlodarczyk from Poland, who won in 2015 and 2017, sustained an injury while chasing a car thief.

Defending champion and world record holder

Joshua Cheptegei

(Uganda) meanwhile won gold in the 10,000 meters.

In a race that was tactically shaped for a long time, the 25-year-old prevailed in 27:27.43 minutes after a thrilling final sprint ahead of Stanley Mburu from Kenya (27:27.90).

Bronze went to Cheptegei's compatriot Jacob Kiplimo (27:29.97).

Surprisingly, Olympic champion Selemon Barega (Ethiopia) only finished fifth.

The Ethiopians are record winners over this distance at world championships with nine titles, four each by Haile Gebrselassie and Kenenisa Bekele, but last won eleven years ago.

Kenya's last triumph over the 25 stadium rounds was even 21 years ago.

A German runner was not at the start.

The Ethiopian

Tamirat Tola

had previously won gold in the marathon in Eugene.

The vice world champion from London 2017 prevailed early on Sunday morning (local time) after 42.195 km with the championship record of 2:05:36 hours.

The Kenyan Abel Kirui set the previous record in Berlin in 2009 (2:06:54).
