On the way to a historic medal?

Israel's senior marathon runner, Luna Chamtai Salpter, is currently participating in the marathon at the World Championships in Oregon, USA.

Chamtai Salpeter, along with her teammate Maor Tiori, lined up on the starting line early in the morning (6:15 local time) to run the 42,195 kilometers, on a flat track much of which is shaded and in great 13-degree weather.

According to the entry lists, Chamtai-Salpter is ranked fifth with 2: 18.45 hours, but the national record, which stands at 2: 17.45 minutes, presented her as one of the top runners in the championship.

The Israeli wants to forget her last world championship three years ago in Qatar, when she was among the leaders and had to retire (just as happened to 27 other runners), due to the high temperature of 32 degrees and 70 percent humidity.

The senior runner will also want to erase Tokyo from memory, when 4 kilometers to the end, she felt stomach cramps, due to menstrual cramps, when she stopped and after returning, finished only in 66th place.

To date, Israel's balance sheet has three medals - two of silver won by triple jumper Hannah Minenko in Beijing 2015 and pole vaulter Alex Averbuch in 2001 at the Edmonton Championships, when two years earlier, he was also responsible for the bronze achieved in Sevilla.
