The management of the Volleyball Association today (Monday) unanimously approved the European Association's proposal to host a European Championship for men at a tournament to be held at the end of August 2023. The hospitality offer came to the management table due to the cancellation of the games in Ukraine.
As a result, the Israeli team automatically advances to the home stage and the qualifying games that were supposed to take place in August at the Enerbox Sports Hall in Hadera are canceled.
"The championship will cause a lot of interest, I thank the management of the Volleyball Association for the brave decision, there is no doubt that hosting the European Championship will promote the team and volleyball in general," said Israel coach Noam Katz. ".
Katz added: "It is great and important, we are a little sad that we will not participate in the qualifiers. We are preparing for the European Championships, there is no doubt that the combination of young and old promotes the team, and we can see the young Kevin Kozmitzon progressing despite lack of experience. The more international games we play, the more advanced the team will be and we will be able to reduce the gaps with European teams. "
The European Championships are attended by 24 teams that will be divided into six houses, the four best teams in each house advancing to the round of 16.
