We ticked off: Today's summary clip, 18.7 (Sports 1)
A respectable performance in a very prestigious position: Jonathan Kapitolnik finished tonight (Monday to Tuesday) in 11th place in the final of the World Championships in high jump, and established his status as the rising star of Israeli athletics.
The 19-year-old Capitolnik was the youngest of the 13 finalists and hoped to surprise and get closer to the medal area, having won last year's World Youth Championship and European Youth Championship, and in the early stages of the weekend recorded the eighth best result among finalists.
At the same time, the injury he carried from the qualifying round - although defined as minor - apparently affected him, and he was unable to recover his personal best (2.30 meters) or beyond.
Kapitolnik opened the final well, passed 2.19 meters easily in the first attempt, and had no trouble passing 2.24, also in the first attempt.
A nice achievement.

When the continuum rose to 2.27 meters, the Capitolnik failed in all three attempts and was dismissed.
At the same time, it is impossible to take away from him the impressive achievement that actually involves his participation in the final.
Capitolnik was the first Israeli man to appear in the final of the field championships at the World Championships since 2007, and in fact became only the fourth Israeli athlete to appear in the finals of the World Championships.
At least he hoped to set an Israeli record and climb above the seventh place where the high jumper Konstantin Metosevich finished in Athens in 1997, but in the meantime he will be satisfied with the important experience he gained, and will get a lot of confidence ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Either way, Israeli sports can already boast a senior representative in the attractive industry, which should be better as the years go by.

After Capitolnik finished his appearance in the final, we got a historic achievement: Motash Barshim of Qatar, world champion from London 2017 and Doha 2019, picked up the gold medal and became the first man ever to win the world championship three times in the high jump.
Barshim passed 2.37 meters with impressive ease, and that was enough for him to beat the rising star of the South Korean branch Sangyuk Wu who passed 2.35.
Ukrainian Andrei Protsenko picked up the bronze medal after passing 2.33 meters, while Janmarco Tambry, who won joint gold with Barshim at the Tokyo Olympics, finished only in fourth place.
